Shyam Ka Samay

Some things were made to tell time. Some were made to remember it.

Vintage clocks, careful craftsmanship and a little bit of the old world, brought together by Shyam Bhaiya in Kurla, Mumbai.

A little shop. A lot of time.

There is something different about an old clock. It does not simply tell you what time it is. It reminds you of a time when things were made differently, with patience, character and a little more permanence. Shyam Ka Samay is built around that feeling.

About Shyam Ka Samay

The man behind the clocks

At 76, Shyam Bhaiya has the kind of patience that modern life does not always leave room for. His world is made up of clocks, careful hands, conversations and objects that were built to last.

He understands that an old clock is not something you simply replace when it stops. Sometimes you listen to it, understand what it needs, and give it another chance.

Between the ticking of an old clock and a good old Hindi song playing somewhere in the background, Shyam Bhaiya is most at home in a world that does not rush.

The sound of another era

A world that did not rush

There is a certain charm in things that do not hurry. An old wall clock ticking in the corner. A conversation that goes on longer than expected. A familiar Hindi song playing on an ordinary evening. The quiet satisfaction of getting an old mechanism working again.

Old songs, old clocks. Both have a way of making us remember.

Clock repair, restoration and maintenance

The art of repair

Wall clock repair is slow work, and it is meant to be. A movement is opened, cleaned and understood before anything is changed. Clock restoration keeps the face, the frame and the marks a clock has earned. What leaves the shop is the same clock, working again.

01

Repair

A clock that has stopped is usually not finished. Most of the time it is waiting for someone patient enough to find out what went quiet.

02

Restoration

Old wall clocks are brought back carefully, keeping the character they arrived with. Nothing is made to look newer than it is.

03

Maintenance

Cleaning, oiling, a new movement, a fresh battery. Small attention, given regularly, is what keeps an old clock keeping time.

Vintage home décor

When time lived on the wall

A wall clock used to be the first thing a home agreed on. It sat above the doorway or beside the shelf, and everything in the house arranged itself around it. Put an old one on a new wall and the room changes character before anyone can say why.

Not everything old belongs in the past. Sometimes it simply needs a new wall.
